Fabulous article and documentation on the recycling of plastic in various forms. How much plastic we’ve to dispose is alarming though. But I love the way villagers who you’ve documented are more literate.
Absolutely fascinating post! I was remembering my childhood and the deliberate materiality my Ajjee practised. She used to wash plastic milk packets, cut them open to make them flat and stitch them together into large sheets to dry papads and cover stuff left outside in the open. With prosperity, we have become so casual about material. The Joules measurement is thought provoking in this context!
It's true that we have become casual about the materials we use and resources. There was one more thing in the book—something we've observed all along: The Jevons Paradox states that, in the long term, an increase in efficiency in resource use will generate an increase in resource consumption rather than a decrease.
Love 'Gods must be crazy'. movie ahead of its time! both the film and this image-commentary beautifully describe how non-human elements and presences make and unmake our lives. a soft reminder that it is not we human beings that are in control of nature, but the other way around. beautiful how 'plastic' could bring this humility <3
True. That movie was ahead of its time. It is also amazing how it became a super hit in India and how we identified with the story as children and adults.
Thank you. And we keep trying to control and bend nature unrelentingly.
I need to learn your observation skills! 🙌🏼
Thank you! I am sure you observe too. Just that I end up clicking everything I see.

Thank you. The community understands the value of the things used in daily life. We can also be mindful like them.

Yup, the world missed that memo! Or powerful people conspired to tear the memo to shreds before the world read it
And blamed the people for their habits. Consumers wanted it.
