Delightful narration. We normally get a one dimensional view of the original inhabitants of Thane. I learnt more reading your essay than I did in the 5 years I stayed there.

I have seen this play out in Fort Kochi as well. The old replaced by standardized new-ness. Uniqueness lost to the more efficient mediocre.
