Thank you for sharing this. I felt like I was moving around in the city with these pictures. Mumbai has this special aura and it is quite evident in the pictures.
Very nice piece and a needed reminder that despite all the progress, these invisible walls persist - not that life is that great for the privileged classes of this city either! (Also please note that 'taste' is pronounced as 'test' in Marathi, and vice versa:-))
Thank you. You are right. The privilege is very relative and despite all the odds, this city and Indian cities are places where one has a better chance for a more equal life, better education, health, etc. Which is why when it come to progressive thoughts and consciousness, Mumbai/Nagpur/MH are the leading lights.
What a brilliant post Gopal; both visually and otherwise. Your photo essay speaks to the burning catastrophes of the day, capturing the city's long-standing and silently accepted project of social divisions so well. Please do a couple follow-ups on the caste / community angles if you can. The fact that the likes of Umar Khalid and Mahesh Raut still languish in our prisons, with not too many of us bothered about their continuing torment, for daring to bring down these walls says less about the system and more about us as a society.
Thank you, Vispy. Thanks to books from Ajaz Ashraf and Alpa Shah, we have a record of what happened and hopefully it leads to more debates and finally justice for them and the people.

Thank you! Happy to share our city with the world. :)
