Cool that you included the list of ghat crossings, though I've only used the last three. Do you know this publication? I feel this piece would be very nice for them. https://skyislands.earth/

It was your comment in the hills near Nagercoil that inspired this post :) And no. I have not read this publication and it is very good. Thank you, for sharing!! Will read :)

Hey that's a new ambition for me to borrow! I want to start with the Palakkad gap because according to one instagram video (not verified) the gap creates the cool weather and rain in Bangalore. Nice piece btw!

Thank you. The Palghat Gap us a great place to start.

Monsoon or post monsoon would be perfect I think. And there was some doubts raised about its connection to Bangalore's daily weather changes - the famous all four seasons in a day weather. Whatever the scientific fact, it's a great gap to pass through.

Agumbe and the Hubli-Ankola-Karwar - ghats are even better. Have you seen the Shankar/Anant Nag film called Michina Ota - I have a feeling that it was shot on that highway but before the ghat starts while going west.

Monsoon again.

That said, northern Maharashtra ghats have a special green during monsoon that is apratim!

ah! good to know. haven't seen minchina ota - or maybe I have seen bits of it, but want to see. btw, let's say I'm traversing the terrain in august and need to do a trip from delhi to bangalore via train with a few stops in between, what routes would you recommend for great scenery?

Delhi Bangalore via central India should be good. Konkan Railway from Mumbai to Udupi is probably the best railways route for monsoon. As lso is Goa to Hubli. You can also do a day train to Palghat from Bangalore. You will get to see parts of the eastern ghats also between Hosur and Salem in addition to the Palghat Gap.

Lovely story. I've now covered the coast from Kannur to Karwar and Karwar to Mumbai on different road trips. The former was during the monsoons. What a sight the western ghats are during monsoons!

Thank you! Lucky you. Cover the rest of the coast too! I traveled from Ernakulam to Trivandrum earlier this month.
