Here are a few images from the good old Cafe De La Paix on JSS Road, near the Pancharatna Building—the heart of the billion-dollar diamond industry.
I happened to be there because Yunus Lasania, the unofficial ambassador of Hyderabad on social media and now writing for The Newsminute, the cool new independent news portal from Bangalore was in town and we decided to meet there with friends. You will find his The Hyderabad History Project on Instagram and it’s a good place to find interesting stories from one of my favourite cities in the heart on the Deccan peninsula.
The owner is a friendly chap and the food is excellent. There is a nice bookshelf (ignore the Mein Kempf) which indicates that you can sit there for a long time without being disturbed.
It still retains the charm of Bombay which has been replaced by the standard Indian concrete/plastic look that has stolen the diverse quirks and characters of Indian cities.
It has a display with products you cannot buy and before Fair and Lovely, the fairness cream that gives you a Barbie plastic pink complexion
Imagine a product that gives your skin Khakhi (dust/mud in Persian) complexion.
The restaurant is near the Opera House and please do visit it if you pass that way.
And the Mutton Kheema and chicken were excellent. Have it with pao (local Mumbai bread).
